Getting There, Doing That, and Getting the T-Shirt

American scientist, businessman, inventor and genius Thomas Alva Edison (1847–1931) was the hard working type, and he said:

Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration.
~ Thomas Alva Edison ~

Good for us. Good for him, too, as long as he was having a wonderful time doing what he did (and he probably was). In my opinion, though, it's like this:

You don't have to work hard. You don't have to work smart. You don't even have to work at all, you simply have to be yourself and do what you naturally do - in service to yourself, others and life. Do that with love, and everything else will take care of itself.
~ Soren Lauritzen ~ the personal development guy

In the words of Lebanese American artist and poet (1883–1931) Kahlil Gibran:

Work is love made visible. And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy.
~ Kahlil Gibran ~

Your Choice!

In other words you have a choice.

Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ~

Actually, you always have a choice. In fact, you always have lots, and lots of choices.

Not just between many kinds of fruits in the marketplace, or many kinds of foods in the supermarket.

Not just between hard work, smart work and love made manifest.

Not even just between being and doing, nor even just between living and dying, but much more to the point:

You have a choice between an infinite amount of experiences.

You are the experiencer - of yourself, of other people, of life, the universe and everything.

This is why you are here, and nothing is more important.

What you choose to experience is not important. The fact that you exist and experience is.

That's why you have free will to choose any experience you like, no matter what your circumstances.

And, of course, the easiest way to experience something is choosing to BE whatever it is you wish to experience.
~ Soren Lauritzen ~ , the Personal Development Guy

Experiencing is crux of existence. It's at the very core. It's what really matters.

Of course, you can't NOT experience. Even seeming to experience nothing at all is an experience.

And since you are unique, experiencing what-ever-it-is as YOU is what makes the experience unique.

You can always be robbed of what you have, but never of what you are.
~ Persian proverb ~

Procrastination:
A Wonderful Experience of Wasting Your Time

So, it's all your choice. Just take your pick. Consider your options, sure. Follow your heart. But don't waste your time procrastinating. Unless that's the experience you want, of course.

If you want to make an easy job seem mighty hard, just keep putting off doing it.
~ Olin Miller ~

Procrastination is my sin.
It brings me naught but sorrow.
I know that I should stop it.
In fact, I will - tomorrow!

~ Gloria Pitzer ~

To think too long about doing a thing often becomes its undoing.
~ Eva Young ~

Tomorrow is often the busiest day of the week.
~ Spanish proverb ~

One of these days is none of these days.
~ Motivational saying ~

In other words:

Procrastination is something best put off until tomorrow.
~ Gerald Vaughan ~

Planning to procrastinate tomorrow? Don't do that. Put it off until the day after tomorrow.
~ Soren Lauritzen ~ , the Personal Development Guy

Or, you could Just Do It! Why wait? Go for It!

Get Started!

'What? Doing it? Who? Me?'

Yeah, you.

If not now, then when? If not you, then who?
~ Inspirational saying ~

There's no time like the present - as the saying goes, and that's so very true. There IS in fact no other time than the present.

The past is gone, never to return, and if you're stuck in the past (emotionally, mentally or as far as your beliefs go) then you're not living in reality and your actions - and results - are likely to reflect that.

The same goes for the future. The future hasn't happened yet, so that isn't real either, and if you're stuck in the future (by excessive planning, worries or the like) then you're just as lost as if you're stuck in the past.

Simply put ...

The best way to get something done is to begin.
~ Inspirational saying ~

Live as if your were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.
~ Mahatma Gandh ~

The tragedy of life is not that it ends so soon, but that we wait so long to begin it.
~ Inspirational saying ~

And as for the 'If not you, then who?' bit, well that's easy to answer. If it doesn't concern you, why even think about it? If it does concern you, well, what are you waiting for?

It's your life. Live it!

Do NOT Worry About Failing!

The above mentioned Thomas Edison invented any number of incredible things that we all benefit from today (including, for instance, the electric light bulb). How?

By failing. Yes, by failing:

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.
~ Thomas Alva Edison ~

And in the words of one who has been called 'the greatest basketball player of all time' (by the American National Basketball Association):

I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
~ Michael Jordan ~

So, as long as you live, don't worry about making mistakes, either.

In life you absolutely, positively cannot fail. You can only live - exist and experience. If you're drawing breath you're a huge success. Learning is fun, too, but optional.
~ Soren Lauritzen ~ , the Personal Development Guy

Okay ... But What DO You Want?

I'm a coach and a guide in consciousness. I talk to people and help them realize things. One of the things help people realize is a) what they think they want and b) what they really want. Often, that's not the same thing.

Success is getting what you want.
Happiness is wanting what you get.

~ Inspirational quote ~
(Attributed to both Ingrid Bergman and Dale Carnegie)

In life you sometimes get what you think you want; other times you get what you really need; but no matter what you get you always get valuable experience.
~ Soren Lauritzen ~ , the Personal Development Guy

It's easy to sit there and say you'd like to have more money. And I guess that's what I like about it. It's easy. Just sitting there, rocking back and forth, wanting that money.
~ Jack Handy ~

My experience is that most people want something, and it's likely to be more than just a lollipop or a pat on the shoulder. It can be pretty much anything, and often it's a lot of things. That goes for you, too. Right?

(Unless you're depressed, of course, in which case you may be unable to feel your desires. More on that some other time). But if you're like the majority of people then you want something.

Maybe you want success. Or, you want love. Or inner peace. Or safety. Or money. Or, you want all of those things plus joy, and sex, and material possessions, and recognition, and self esteem, and fun, and, and, and ..

Of course, the funny thing is that ...

If you don't really need whatever it is you want, then no matter how much of it you get, it'll never seem to be enough. In fact most of our needs are like that.
~ Soren Lauritzen ~ , the Personal Development Guy

Getting What You Need

To get what you really need, to use the law of attraction, so to speak, you've got to reverse the process:

The perfect creative stance is satisfaction where I am, and eagerness for more.
~ Esther Hicks (speaking for Abraham) ~

What you think and what you feel and what you manifest is always a match. Every single time. No exception.
~ Esther Hicks (speaking for Abraham) ~

Your real work is to decide what you want and then to focus upon it. For it is through focusing upon what you want that you will attract it. That is the process of creating.
~ Esther Hicks (speaking for Abraham) ~

In fact, there great news for you:

You can be, have, think, feel, believe and do whatever you want! If you can imagine it, life allows you to try it.
~ Soren Lauritzen ~ , the Personal Development Guy

The above example of inspirational quotations is a fact of life, but it actually makes some people angry when I mention it. 'If that were true,' they will say, 'then people would be allowed to do terrible things!'

My reply is yes, so they are, and so they do. Just look around you.

You may not like it. You may want it to be different. You think and feel that everybody should be 'nice' (whatever your definition of that is), but of course you very well know that they're not. And it's not a problem. Honestly! Because ...

You have total freedom of experience - beautiful orange yellow sunset lake birds

You Have Total Freedom of Experience

Depending on your current life situation, it may not seem that way, but the fact is that you have total freedom of experience. Meaning that you can experience whatever you choose.

'Freedom of experience', huh, that's a new phrase I've just coined right there - kind of cool, I think. Why? Because that's true empowerment:-)

Anyway:

People do terrible things, it's a fact of life, but people also do wonderful things.

Life allows both. Life doesn't judge.

Life is totally accepting of you; totally accepting of any thought you think; totally accepting of any feeling or need you experience; totally accepting of any belief you choose; totally accepting of any decision you make; and totally accepting of any deed you perform.

No matter what, you are accepted by life. There is deep peace and great joy in this fact.
~ Soren Lauritzen ~ , the Personal Development Guy

But what about laws, and morals, and ethics, and such?

Well, the truth is: those are man made things - life doesn't care one bit about them, rather life just accepts them, just like life accepts everything else.

But ... What Will the Neighbours Think?

Of course, depending on what you want to try, other people may very well care about the laws, morals and ethics of it. But oftentimes they don't.

People who say they don't care what people think are usually desperate to have people think they don't care what people think.
~ George Carlin ~

If you're worried about what people think - don't be! They may bitch a bit, but just like yourself they really are much too busy with themselves and their own lives to seriously be concerned with you and yours.
~ Soren Lauritzen ~ , the Personal Development Guy

Go On, Then - Create the Life of Your Dreams!

It has been said that we humans are sea animals, living on land, who want to fly in the air.

And so we are. There's nothing wrong with having aspirations. In fact, it's great.

In other words: There's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't create the life of your dreams - it's your life, after all, not everybody else's.

So be true to your highest aspirations. Focus on your grandest vision. Follow your dreams.

A man's dreams are an index to his greatness.
~ Zadok Rabinowitz ~

Some men see things as they are and say 'why'? I dream things that never were and say 'why not'?
~ George Bernard Shaw ~ (also used by Edward Kennedy in a Eulogy)

Some people see things that are and ask, Why? Some people dream of things that never were and ask, Why not? Some people have to go to work and don't have time for all that ...
~ George Carlin ~

I ask you: Are you too busy going to work and making a living to take a chance, follow your dreams and actually live?
~ Soren Lauritzen ~ , the Personal Development Guy

Dreams are illustrations ... from the book your soul is writing about you.
~ Marsha Norman ~

Final piece of advice?

No matter what you do, don't forget to have fun! :-)
